Do You Know What Type of Water Damage Could Affect Your Calabash Home?
Water can enter the home at any time of day or night, which can be traumatic for residents in Calabash. When possible, call a professional migration team right away. The source of the water can play an essential role in the migration and clean-up process. A prompt response by a skilled team may save your property and could result in less contamination.
During these situations, one of the last things property owners want to have to cope with is cleaning up and restoring their homes. We are a well-respected nationwide franchise known for our expertise in water damage cleanup and restoration. When we arrive, our technicians classify the severity of the damage by checking the source of the water in the affected areas.
There are three categories of water, which are clean, gray, and black. Typically, when the source is clean water, the level of damage is less dangerous than when it is gray or black water. Clean water is the least contaminated type. Tap water and rainwater are prime examples of what we classify as clean. Gray water contains some contamination that could be harmful to homeowners. Examples of gray water include urine, wash water, and aquamarine water. Blackwater is the most dangerous to humans and may contain feces, parasites, bacteria, sewage, chemicals, and viruses. One of the most common examples of black water is flood water.
Even though clean water is the least dangerous type, it is still essential to begin migration quickly because bacteria and fungi can contaminate clean water within 48 hours. Homeowners in Calabash can rest a little easier when facing a water emergency in their homes. SERVPRO uses proven and scientific methods to classify and remove each water category. Also, we use proper and efficient methods to clean up and restore the affected areas back to their preloss condition when possible. Homeowners should be aware that we may deem your home unsafe due to the water category. When this happens, a move-out may be necessary until after the cleanup and restoration are complete. We can be there to assist with packing and moving.

1/7/2022 (Permalink)
SERVPRO can help clean up the mess left by a leaking water heater.
If you do experience water damage in Southport from your water heater, try and remain calm and shut off the water feed line. Then, contact SERVPRO, our restoration company that specializes in water damage restoration and cleanup to deal with the mess left behind.
Since high temperature and late detection are problems with water heater floods, there are some dangers that it creates that exceeds normal flooding events. There are things to watch out for in case you are dealing with this.
The initial water bursting forth from the heater may be scalding hot, so do not rush in, especially if you see steam all over the area. You risk getting hot water burns otherwise. It is best to wait for a SERVPRO technician to arrive and take care of everything for you.
Another reason you should not rush into a flooded area is that the water could be contacting exposed wiring or power outlets. The water then carries a strong electric current, so do not take a risk in going into the water. Also, the situation creates a potential fire hazard, as the electrical system short and spark.
The water damage from a flood like this can damage wood, ruin carpeting, corrode metals and destroy expensive machinery and appliances. Mold spores can also be activated with enough moisture and organic materials to sustain them. Since mold growth is very likely in a case like this, our technicians at SERVPRO are also going to check for mold growth and hidden moisture with special moisture meters and can clean it up along with all the water. We do not leave until the area is thoroughly dried and sanitized.
SERVPRO of Brunswick and South Columbus Counties arrives at your home in a timely fashion to avoid further damage. Therefore, we encourage you to call us right away when you discover the problem at (910) 755-6717.

Every water damage event is a little different and requires a unique solution, but the general process stays the same. The steps listed below illustrate our process for the “typical” water damage emergency.
When you call us, our consultant will guide you through several questions that will help us respond to your water emergency more quickly and efficiently. This initial contact is an important part of a fast, effective restoration.
We carefully inspect your property’s water damage, determining the type of water damage and the areas affected. This is a crucial step to creating an effective plan of action that will result in a successful restoration.
The water removal process begins almost immediately and removes the majority of the water. We use powerful pumps and vacuum units to quickly remove hundreds or thousands of gallons from your property which helps prevent secondary water damage and mold growth.
After the bulk of the water has been removed, we use specialized equipment to target the water that’s harder to access. Our Professionals use less intrusive, scientific drying methods to draw the remaining water and moisture from your property with air movers and dehumidifiers.
We clean, repair, and disinfect all of the restorable items and structures that were damaged by the water. We are adept at cleaning contents using a number of techniques. We’re also trained to remove odors using industrial air scrubbers and fogging equipment.
The last step is restoring your home or business back to its pre-water damage condition. The restoration step can be relatively minor, such as replacing a few drywall panels or could include major reconstruction, such as rebuilding entire rooms of a home or business.
If you have had a broken pipe in your home or water damage from another source, SERVPRO of Brunswick and South Columbus Counties can help. Call us today, 910-755-6717!
